Original Mini voted best ever British car

No surprise with this one – the original Mini has been voted Britain’s best ever car by readers of Autocar magazine. The huge popularity of the affordable little car, which was 100% built in Britain at the time, knocked the classic Aston Martin and the E-type Jaguar off the top spot.

Sadly, the original went out of production years ago and BMW now own the brand. But even the modern mini’s are a marvel, especially with the construction. If you’re a “how it’s made” geek like me, check out this video below on the manufacture of the 2014 edition. It’s truly incredible:

Autocar editor Chas Hallett said: ‘It comes as little surprise that the original Mini has topped the list of all-time British greats

‘It represents a lot more than the British car industry; the Mini is associated with Great Britain around the world and, in many ways, it was ahead of its time.’
